KW Walking Classic – Minds in Motion
OTTAWA, Ontario ? Stephen Woodworth, Member of Parliament for Kitchener Centre, took part in the charitable event on Sunday, September 25, 2011.
“It’s always good to get out for a brisk walk in the morning but it is even better when you can walk for a great cause,” said MP Woodworth. “This event is particularly gratifying because it draws attention, in a positive fashion, to mental illness that stigmatized for far too long.”
The Minds in Motion KW Walking Classic spotlights walking as a physical activity and supports individuals who are facing mental health challenges. The walk brings like-minded people together to enjoy a positive, fun event while building an understanding of how people facing mental challenges suffer. There is a link between physical and mental health and the fund raising goal of the Minds in Motion event is to provide athletic footwear for those facing mental health issues.
“One of the challenges of being a Member of Parliament is trying to carve out enough time in my schedule for regular work-outs, “ commented Woodoworth. “This event allows me to, pardon the pun, walk the walk and doing some good at the same time. It was a very enjoyable morning and I met some very impressive people.”
