MP Woodworth’s Motion on the Horizon
OTTAWA, Ontario ? Stephen Woodworth, Member of Parliament for Kitchener Centre
Last week, Parliament officially declared MP Stephen Woodworth’s Motion 312 votable in the House of Commons commencing with one hour of debate on April 26, 2012 and a further hour of debate to follow in late Spring.
The motion, tabled in the House early February, would establish a Parliamentary Committee to study Canada’s 400 year old definition of human being. Woodworth remains concerned about subsection 223(1) and is asking Parliament to closely examine the law based on modern medical science.
“It seems reasonable to suggest a study of modern medical evidence about our 400 year old definiton of human being." Woodworth said. "We should never accept any law that says that some human beings are not human."
Canada has yet to update the seventeenth century law found in subsection 223(1) of the Criminal Code. Woodworth is asking Canadians to voice their concerns regarding this archaic law to all MP’s and hopes fellow Members of Parliament will support Motion 312.
